Pinch collars for Dog Training

Pinch collars for dog training can be used very successfully, but if you don't know the proper way to use them, you can harm your dog. A pinch or choke collar is a  link chain that is smooth and sized according the type of dog it is used for. There are no tags, no rings or couplers on a pinch collar. When the collar is pulled, it will tighten and not use up more than 2 or 3 inches of chain length. This collar is your dogs attention getter, do not use a buckle collar along with this type.

Use a cotton web or leather leash at least 6 feet long, do not use anything shorter. Make sure your leash is wide and strong, but yet easy for you to hold on to. There should not be any loops,  nylon web leashes, chains and no flex leashes (retractable). This is going to be a phone line so to speak, in which you will use to communicate with your dog.

When you are contemplating pinch collars for dog training, you need to first have your dog "leash trained". Can he be walked easily on a leash, is he afraid or cower, does he start fighting with other dogs on your walk? These are referred to as "walkies". Leash training and obedience training are two separate issues, do not try to do both of these together, you will only cause stress and confusion for your dog.

The most important thing to know about pinch collars for dog training is the way you put it on your dog. Your dog will sense your confidence and will learn through your use of this collar and the leash.

First you will slip together the collar, there will be visual instructions that come with the collar when you purchase it. Once you have it together, you will practice pulling the ring to tighten it. Practice this on your arm until you feel you have it down. When the tension is released, the pinch collar should give some slack and slip right back into place.

Once you have this down, you can place this on your dogs head and test it again. If there is no slack, then you do not have it on correctly, it is most likely on backwards. Once you are done using the pinch collars for dog training, remove it immediately. These can choke and kill your dog.
